Cox Cable Video Platform Now Has YouTube

As a result of a partnership with Comcast Cable, Cox Cable and Internet customers will be able to watch YouTube videos using their Cox Contour 2 video platform and a third party YouTube app. And you can use the Contour search features on the Cox remote.

Last year, you may remember, Cox Cable and Internet made Netflix viewing available using the Contour remote. Cox's Contour is based on the X1 technology Cox leases from Comcast Cable. YouTube viewing with the feature is separate from the cable service and when you watch videos it will count against Cox’s data caps. Comcast has been offering Netflix and YouTube apps on their Comcast branded X1 platform for a while.

According to information from Cox, customers must have Cox Residential Internet service and the Contour 2 remote device to use the YouTube app at this time. Voice commands won't work (yet).
